On October 31, as part of the Virtualità Materiali exhibition program, a roundtable titled “Behind Digital Platforms: New Educational Approaches for Ticino Schools” took place in Lugano, at the Limonaia of Villa Saroli, where the artworks exploring the materiality of data and the digital world are installed.

The event focused on a recently implemented educational module in several schools across Ticino, aimed at addressing the challenges posed by the introduction of digital technology over the past few decades. Challenges such as, for example, the coexistence in classrooms of students often called “digital natives” alongside many older teachers for whom technology can seem “unnatural.”

The event kicked off with introductions by Andrea Plata (SUPSI-DFA/ASP) and Filippo Bignami (SUPSI-LUCI). Following this, the educational module was presented during the roundtable, which was then opened to a collective discussion with the participation of Sandra Mitrovic (SUPSI-DTI – IDSIA), Ralph Pomina (Middle School Teacher), Sandro Pellicciotta (High School Teacher – Bologna), Daniele Bollini (History Teaching and ECCD Expert), and Giuseppe Laffranchi (DECS – Center for Educational and Digital Resources).

The roundtable offered a valuable opportunity to exchange ideas and explore practical solutions.
